In most homes the bed is a bit of furniture, something which can be transferred to various locations within a space or within the entire house, exactly as with any other furnishing, be it a chair or a sofa. However, the mattress’s location is often dependent on numerous architectural factors — solid wall surfaces, windows, windows — which makes it ideal for considering it as a built-in rather than a store-bought item. This choice can be based on numerous reasons, for example layout consistency, a personalized fit, and also the incorporation of storage.

This ideabook presents illustrations from bedrooms for adults and kids, be it queen-size beds or bunk beds. If you’re considering a built-in bed for your present house or next project, read on.

This wood platform bed appears to emerge out of a wood alcove with shelves, drawers, and just a clerestory window. This alternative makes a cohesive environment, adds a few well-placed storage, and incorporates custom touches, such as the reading lights.

Hufft Projects

Kansas City-based Hufft Projects definitely spends a fantastic deal of work on the master beds inside their homes, according to the subsequent two built-ins. Like the previous case, this platform emerges from an alcove, whose shadowy end gives an embrace that is antithetical of their full-height glazing.

The next Hufft Projects bed features a nightstand and headboard attached into the walls; the latter is articulated in a brick pattern which overlooks the grey brick exterior that gives the Curved House its name.

Hufft Projects

The last bed by Hufft Projects featured this is a Murphy bed, which retracts into the wall when not in use. Located elsewhere at the Curved House, the wood finish is the same as the master bedroom and other casework throughout the house.

Speaking of beds appearing out of alcoves, this platform bed is nicely incorporated with the nightstands, but it’s most striking for the way the light shines down in the recess. The dark wood panels are a dominating presence, accentuating the zone of light below.

A padded headboard is fitted within a wood wall with various spaces such as storage. Reading is an especially relaxing way to wind down the day and simplicity off to sleep, so providing for the action –with distance for a book and the all-important light — points into a built-in bed.

This platform bed is rather different from the previous examples. Once it offers much of the same conveniences — nightstand, book storage, light — it does those things in different ways: the nightstand is an extension of the platform; a nook is carved into the wall to get books; and the light is mounted directly into the wall. Most striking is how the bed is mounted into the wall and open beneath.

Bunk beds are ideal for being assembled as built-ins, provided that they are like miniature two-story structures inserted inside a room. This pair of bunk beds incorporates storage below the bottom bunks. Next you’ll see it from another angle.

The walls also match the beds and also help make an enveloping environment for the lower bunk. The slats at left provide the possibility for storage or display. And of course we find the ubiquitous Tolomeo lamp for reading without bothering the other sleepers.

I must say I really like this bunk bed, particularly how it merges storage together with the steps that offer access to the top bunk. Sure, it takes up more space than a bunk bed with ladder, but it’s so fun and full of personality that it might never become older, even as the kids do.

This bed cubby is made exceptional by the small windows and the fantastic amounts of storage provided around the mattress’s opening. I can understand why the bears are enjoying it so much!

This playroom Murphy bed is part of a wood casework wall with a great deal of storage. A Murphy bed offers the option to fill in the deep areas around it with shelves and cabinets.

This last example might not function as a bedroom, but the padded seating inside this play room is pretty creative in how it’s inserted between two polycarbonate walls, also at how it reaches towards a window at the low portion of the roof. The little nook creates…

… a reading nook for those kids, one with a fantastic view and fantastic light. I think it would make a fantastic bed!
